Pump Power (Input Power)

Calculate pump shaft power (input power) required to operate the pump.

Calculator

Pump Power (Input Power)

Formula

The pump input power is calculated as:

Pinput = ρ · g · Q · H / η

Where:

  • Pinput = pump input power [W]
  • ρ = liquid density [kg/m³]
  • g = gravitational acceleration [9.80665 m/s²]
  • Q = flow rate [m³/s]
  • H = total head [m]
  • η = pump efficiency [decimal]

Engineering note

Pump power (input) accounts for pump efficiency losses.

Hydraulic power is the theoretical power transferred to the liquid.
